Spring Break: March 24 Oslo, Frogner Park

Before we left Oslo, we spent a few hours in Frogner Park, which contains Vigeland Sculpture Park. It is full of naked bronze people. I think it is about 200 figures. There are also monoliths, stone figures, steel gates, and a giant monolith. All these naked people are representations of the human condition. The most famous is Angry Boy can you find which one he is?

Spring Break: March 24 Oslo

Olso, in the daylight, was far more impressive than our first impression. The scary people disappeared, and the buildings were rather impressive. We wondered around all day looking at palaces, statues, parks, museums and fortresses.

Spring Break: March 23 Train to Oslo

This was a far less stressful morning, but the travel was not with out its hinges. We, with about 7 min to spare, head to the train station.
One last look at Bergen before we head back to Oslo.
Goodbye Bergen train station from the outside.
Goodbye Bergen train station from the inside.

We wait around for a little and realize that our train (and there are only two tracks) was no where to be found. We asked a portly worker, and he informed us that because of an oncoming blizzard (yikes!) it was stuck at Voss. So, yet again, we got on a bus to Voss. We caught our train and waited for the oncoming snow storm.

Yes, the snow really did come down hard once the train started moving, but, while admiring the snow, we noticed that we were stopped at Mydral Station! This was the one stop we did not make on out Nutshell Tour, so we goofily with a lot of stares jumped off the train took pics and jumped back on.

The train continued, and we played more Nintendo DS. The train was at an incredibly high altitude, and we were zooming in and out of tunnels. In one tunnel, the train stopped. We figured they were waiting for another train to pass or something, but after an half an hour, they announced that there were some difficulties. We remained calm until the lights went out too! We panicked a little, but no one else on the train did.

We followed everyone else's lead and went to the snack car and bought hot dogs.
After 2 hours, we were on our way again. The sun came out and cleared the tracks.
Even though we started our rather early, it was dark once we arrived in Oslo.

Our hostel was a classic hostel. We accidentally booked only one bed, but it was easily enough to sneak in tiny Erica and save our selves a few good Kroner.

Spring Break: March 22 Bergen- FJORDS!

This is truly where our vacation began. We actually even spent money this day! We bought Norway in a Nutshell tickets. We hopped on every form of transportation and saw the best sights in the country. It was a day of waiting, picture taking, being silly, and imagining what the world was like 1000 years ago.Our tour (with no tour guide) was supposed to be a train from Bergen to Voss, a bus to Gudvangen, a boat to Flam, an old fashion train to Myrdal, and a train to Bergen.
We woke up early (not early enough because we almost missed the train) and zoomed between the mountains and a river to the first leg of our journey.
Our bus was sitting in the horrid weather waiting for us. We merrily jumped on and shot-gunned the front seat like a couple of pros.
The bus stopped for an amazing waterfall; the biggest I've ever seen.

Caught a few great scenes on the bus ride to to Gudvangen
Our boat! Just kidding.

Here we are in Gudvangen waiting.

Waiting for our boat... it never came! we were stranded here for about two hours then had to take a bus to a different dock.
We waited at Flam, which was almost magical because it was like a hollowed bowl in the middle of the mountains with only a river for entrance and exit.
Playing in Flam.
The train we never rode to Mydal because our first boat never showed.
Our little boat to back to Gudvangen.
So this is a fjord.
Totally frozen waterfalls.

Do you see the Dragon?
This village must have been here for thousands of years.
The true definition of Awesome fits.
The one leg of the journey unfulfilled. We got our money back though!
Back to Voss, but we had even more time to kill. We explored and it was a tiny little town with a bit of charm.
Back to the mean streets of Bergen, so beautiful.
